The Stamp Duty (Exempt Instruments) Regulations 1987 determine which transfers of stock or shares are exempt from payment of Stamp Duty.

Following the implementation of the Civil Partnership Act 2004 on 5th December, the Tax and Civil Partnership (No. 2) Regulations 2005 have broadened the existing categories to include transfers of stock or shares between civil partners.

We have therefore amended the categories on the back of CON40 and CON40G to refer to civil partners.

The Companies Act 1985 (Investment Companies and Accounting and Audit Amendments) Regulations 2005 amended the accounting and audit provisions of the Companies Act 1985 and the distribution rules for investment companies on 1st October 2005.

Because there is no longer a requirement to make prior year disclosure in notes to small company accounts or small company abbreviated accounts, we have deleted the reference to previous year between notes 3 and 4 in the balance sheet.

We have also inserted a new paragraph ten to cater for the provisions of the Companies Act 1985 (International Accounting Standards and Other Accounting Amendments) Regulations 2004 which apply to accounting periods which started in 2005.

Finally, we have more closely aligned the notes to the balance sheet with the notes to the accounts used in Schedule 8A of the Companies Act 1985.
